A note from our Trail Manager, CJ Scott

April 29, 2011

The winter that won’t quit may still have a grip on the woods of the Northeast Kingdom, but that isn’t stopping us from gearing up for another amazing summer mountain bike season!  With tons of stellar projects lined up for the upcoming summer season, I’m sure you’ll be more than stoked to head out on the trails and ride all the new and improved trails on our growing system.

With the demand growing for more trails and better maintenance to the existing trails, this summer we’ll be staffing THREE trail crews!  You heard right, there will be 3 different crews out working on a variety of different projects!

Ever go down a trail and have your sight lines blocked coming around a corner or come out of a nasty section of raspberry bushes looking like your forearms got mauled by your grammas’ cat?  Well not any more buddy!  This will be the 2nd year we have a crew out tackling these issues as well as mowing, clipping, and expanding the trail corridor.

You all like the mountain trails, right?  Well how about a crew solely responsible for maintaining JUST the trails on the mountain?!  For the first time ever we’ll have crew who’ll work on the lift accessed trails, as well as both Mooses’, Burnham Down, all the summit trails and everything in between.  This will also help us focus on getting more hardening measures met so we can keep the mountain side open more often… sound good or what?!

Now don’t worry, Darling Hill will still get all the love you’ve come to expect every summer.  The Darling Hill Crew has a whole smorgasbord full of projects from more bridging to re-routing blown out areas.  What… new trails?  Oh yeah, don’t worry; we’ve got ya covered.  What do you say about a new trail to open the season with?  You all know Tody’s and Tap N’ Die, well how about a trail in the same area with the same flow and feel?  That’s right my friends… Troll Stroll is coming!

Speaking of the new trail… wanna help out build it?  Our first Volunteer Trail Work Day is on Sunday, May 1st (conditions permitting) and we will dedicate that day to clearing brush, raking, shaping, and hopefully riding Troll Stroll!  Meet at the Darling Memorial Park in East Burke at 9 am and get ready to bust our a brand spanking new trail!

If this this doesn’t get you fired up for the summer, then check your pulse, take a cold shower, get an I.V. of pure concentrated RedBull, do whatever it takes… ‘cause we’re gonna knock yer socks off!

Sincerely, CJ Scott: KTA Trail Manager

The store template that we are using seems to have a flaw in it’s design.   Please bear with us while we try to get the site to make some improvements.

Kingdom Trails Holiday News Update

December 15, 2010

Nordic Season is almost upon us!!! KT Nordic trails will open when conditions are satisfactory- which means the ground is frozen and the snow is sticking.  The snow is falling and it is cold, so it shouldn’t be long now!  We will make sure to make the announcement on our site and hope it happens asap- we’re ready to go!

Check out David Dwyer- our All Star groomer! David is styled out in our KT groomer jacket and our brand new custom Skida hat (and yes, it is snowing in this picture.)  The hats are at the embroiderer right now getting their crowns put on and you will be able to pick them up at our Dashney Rd. Center this winter.

On another exciting note for East Burke, The Northeast Kingdom Country Store- formerly “Bailey’s in Burke” is finally open!!!  It’s basically (as one six year old observed) a “refreshed” version of the the good ol’ Bailey’s that we remember.  They still have the great pizzas, sandwiches and deli case- but have expanded the sitting area and added breakfast burritos, VT. Coffee Company by the cup and make your own waffles and oatmeal.  Yay!  Finally, some sort of breakfast in town!

The new Kingdom Trail’s Bill Koch Instructional League Icebreaker on Sunday was a huge success with about 30 kids plus their adults, it was a full house and racous crown in the Burke Mtn. Academy’s dining room.  Unfortunately, the rain prevented us from getting out on the trails, but the wet snow was perfect for snowball fights as many kids (and adults) found out.  Check out the last blog posting for details and sign up sheets.

And last, but not least, KTA store products are still available by clicking on the red store button the upper right hand corner of any page on our website.  All products will be sent by Priority US mail which means only 2 days to deliver anywhere in the US.!  We have some great gifts for the cyclists in your life like men’s and women’s season pass gift bags.

Thank you to everybody for your support, and we hope to see you on the trails soon!!!
